From the Owner…
From the moment I first played my Thumpy Banjo, I knew I had something truly special in my hands. The 23.6″ scale tackhead model that Bob built for me delivers a tone that is nothing short of exquisite—round, full, and deeply resonant, with just the right amount of thump and clarity to make every note feel grounded and expressive.
The responsiveness of this banjo is outstanding. Whether I’m brushing the strings gently or digging in a bit more, the instrument responds instantly and musically. One of the features I especially appreciate is the pair of soundports, which allow me to hear myself incredibly well while playing.
Bob went above and beyond in the purchase process. I asked if he could adapt his “banjo buddy” support system for a tackhead model—a non-trivial request—and he enthusiastically made it work. He also added strap buttons for me (something not typically found on tackheads or standard banjos), making the instrument far more comfortable to play and extremely secure.
The workmanship is absolutely top tier. The EVO gold fretwire is not only beautiful but flawlessly dressed and leveled. The neck feels smooth and confident in the hand, and the entire build reflects a deep attention to detail and craft. It’s a joy to play and an even greater joy to own.
I can’t thank Bob enough for building this banjo. It’s an instrument that not only sings beautifully but feels like an extension of the player. If you’re looking for a banjo with soul, clarity, and craftsmanship, look no further than Thumpy Banjos.
